Aphias Capital, Led by an H.I.G. Veteran, Closes Its Debut Fund at More Than $1.05 Billion

In short

Aphias Capital closed its first fund at just over $1.05 billion, above a $900 million target and over its hard cap. Public pensions, health systems and insurers are among the investors.

On 8 October 2026, Aphias Capital announced the final close of its inaugural fund, Aphias Capital Fund I, with just over $1.05 billion in total capital commitments. The fund was oversubscribed and closed above its hard cap, a figure the firm did not disclose. Its target, reported in April, was $900 million, so by our arithmetic the close is about 17% above target, and slightly more because the total is "just over" $1.05 billion. A first fund closing ahead of target is the kind of result other first-time managers will be measured against.

What closed

Aphias makes control investments in lower-middle-market healthcare services and essential services companies in North America, with $5 million to $30 million of EBITDA at the first investment. It aims to be a company's first or second institutional investor, and it also pursues corporate carve-outs. Rob Wolfson is founder and managing partner, and he set the firm up in 2025 after a career at H.I.G. Capital. Nine members of the investment and operating team previously worked together at H.I.G., many for more than a decade, and Wolfson called Aphias "a start-up 20 years in the making."

Who invested

The investors include public pensions, health systems, insurers, endowments, foundations, family offices, funds of funds and other financial institutions, which is eight categories. Aphias did not disclose the number of investors or the capital from each type, so we cannot say what share of the fund came from any one category, by capital or by count. Health systems are the unusual name on that list, and we look at how to reach them in our Warm Paths piece on the same close.

How it compares

Other closes we covered this month were repeat managers raising far larger funds. Audax closed its direct lending fund at its $5.4 billion hard cap, 35% above target, and LS Power closed at $6 billion, 50% above target. Aphias is about a fifth of Audax's size ($1.05 billion against $5.4 billion, or 19%) and closed 17% above target, so the oversubscription is smaller in percentage terms but achieved without a prior fund to point to.

What GPs should take from it

This is our reading, not something Aphias said. A sector-specific story, a team with a shared record and a stated entry size ($5 million to $30 million of EBITDA) gave LPs a clear question to answer. For a first-time or emerging manager, the lesson is to narrow the pitch before widening the LP base. FundLinx members can see which LP types back first-time funds in your sector.
